Onward!

From 8/17 on, much of my activity was managing my ads on Craigslist. I found some interesting things about Craigslist. For whatever reason, they will ghost your ad. This means, although you get an e-mail saying your ad is there, along with a link to your ad, it really isn't there. This has happened a few times.

8/21 - I posted on Twitter. I included a product recommendation, along with my Watkins website, and my Watkins associate info.

8/22 - I had two more catalog requests.

8/23 - Another catalog request. I also checked for hits on my recruiting website. I have had 62 hits. I ordered samples today, and the September sales flyer.

8/25 - I decided to expand my Craigslist posting to a larger area. Wyoming has less than a half million people. I started running my ad in the Fort Collins area.

8/27 - Once again, I posted on Twitter.

8/31 - After 159 hits, I got my first recruit. This is a bit scary, since I am new at this too.

Business activities, continued.....

8/12 - I started a classified posting with Craigslist. I posted the following ad under business management jobs. Part time Business - Work from home. Choose your own hours. Excellent income potential. Training provided. Free details at http://www.tsginfo.com/je4294a

I got my email verification back, and checked to make sure my ad was actually there, and did not get dusted. It was.

One of the nice things about the Watkins group that I am in is that they provide a free website to their downline members. This website details the busines opportunity, and people have a good feel for what it is without my having to "cold call."

8/15 - I reposted the Craigslist ad. I also checked into a possible holiday bazaar. The one I checked on may not be a go this year, as the building is being remodeled. I have a couple of others in mind. I also sent in my "Terms of Agreement" that I had questions about previously. I gave out one catalog, and posted my "new business" announcement on Facebook.

8/16 - Another catalog went out today. This was a direct request from someone who had checked out my Watkins website, at http://www.WatkinsOnline.com/lawrence

8/17 - Two co-workers requested catalogs. I make sure I have these, and business cards with me at all times. One customer was interested in linements and such, so I printed out those product sheets. Again, I relisted my Craigslist advertisment, but this time I put the listing in Sales. I am now running two ads, one in business management and one in sales. Both are listed under the Wyoming area.

The Best Laid Plans

My goal, when I started this blog, was to post every day. I would tell you what I had done that day to promote my home based business, and the results that I was seeing. Unfortunately, life got in the way of posting. This post will start to detail that activity.

August 8, 2011 - I signed up to be an Independent Watkins Associate, for Watkins Products. I did this over the phone. The person at the call center who signed me up told me to be sure to go online and accept the business terms.
I also Googled places like Craigslist, Yahoo Local and Business Finders, in the hopes of placing ads on these sites. I found I could not access the Watkins website. I fired off an e-mail.

8/9 - My login information was in my e-mailbox when I checked this morning. I did some exploring around the website, and noted my web page address, www.WatkinsOnline.com/lawrence, for orders, and my Watkins e-mail address, www.lawrence@watkinsonline.com

8/10 - I printed off some temporary business cards, and placed a basic order for catalogs. After much thought, I also purchased a bundle of products to familiarize myself with them. This was a decision that I thought long and hard about. I will discuss this practice in a later post.

My upline, or assigned sponsor left a message on my answering machine, explaining that she was my Watkins go to person. She left her toll free number. I immediately thought of a couple of questions, but did not have the time to call her.

8/11 - I participated in a training call for new associates at 8 p.m. This hour long call did have some good information and ideas. I was told that Watkins, unlike some other home based businesses, does allow advertising on Craigslist and other sites of that nature. The main thing was that it has to be very clear that the advertisements are coming from an independent Watkins associate, and that we cannot promise that people will get rich quick.

To be continued.....

What is Watkins?

Watkins is an old business. It has been around since 1868. Prior to the internet, Watkins products were sold door to door. Many people looked forward to the monthly visits from the Watkins man, with his salves and spices. Today, Watkins carries some of the original products, including the one that the company was founded on...linement. Watkins has a wide variety of products, including cooking spices, flavorings and other culinary delights. They carry medicinal products. Their cleaning products are all natural ingredients. As I start using the products and become more familiar with them, I will highlight a few.

As required by Watkins, I must identify myself as an Independent Watkins Associate. This certainly is not a problem. I have a three-month-trial period with a Watkins website for selling products. I invite you to take a look.

An Opportunity

I love having a small, home based business. I have done a variety of them, including Mary Kay, Oxyfresh, and Avon. The latter was my most recent venture, and I did it over five years. Due to recent representative fee restructuring, and minimum orders, I decided I did not have the desire to continue. I looked around, and decided to try Watkins. Actually, this would be my second try. The first time I thought about Watkins, I had too many other things going on, including a new relationship and the coursework for a Masters in Education.

I signed up for this business earlier this week. I like the products. I have had two phone calls from my "upline". Tonight there is a conference training call. This is alot of support. I am starting to think that if you fail in a Watkins business, it is because you do not put any effort whatsoever into it.
